Advanced Wilderness First Aid

(SOLO AWFA Certification)

Course Information:

Accidents happen. People get hurt, sick, or lost. The temperature drops, the wind picks up, and it starts to rain. Would you know what to do? Many backcountry emergencies are preventable, and even when bad things happen, sometimes the wrong care can make things worse. By learning a few basic skills, you can make the difference between a good outcome and a bad one-and maybe even save a life. The AWFA is the perfect course for the outdoor enthusiast or trip leader who wants in depth information on medical and environmental emergencies along with hands-on practice of backcountry first aid skills. It also meets the ACA guidelines. The SOLO AWFA is 16 hours long (two days), and focuses on leadership. Participants learn to take control of medical situations, including patient assessment, injury management, traction and other necessary outdoor skills. The class goes into greater depth of basic WFA subjects than the SOLO Basic WFA course.

  • Participants must have completed SOLO Basic Wilderness First Aid in the past 24 months.
  • CPR Ceritification is not included or required.
  • All participants must bring a current BSA Medical Form, Parts A & B.

Upcoming Courses:

This training costs $150 per participant including lunch on both days and a campsite registration. Breakfast and dinner will not be provided.
